How to Make a Car Finance Complaint
If you believe you were mis-sold car finance, you have the right to complain directly to your finance provider and, if necessary, to the Financial Ombudsman Service. Here's a general overview of the process:
Contact Your Finance Provider
Start by making a complaint directly to the company that provided your car finance. This could be:
- The car dealership
- The finance company
- A broker who arranged the finance
Explain clearly what went wrong and what outcome you're seeking. Keep records of all communications.
Wait for Their Response
The company must acknowledge your complaint within 3 business days and provide a final response within 8 weeks. If they don't respond or you're not satisfied with their response, you can escalate to the Financial Ombudsman Service.
Financial Ombudsman Service
If you're not satisfied with the finance provider's response, you can take your complaint to the Financial Ombudsman Service for free.
